Detailed description
3D Gold Mask of Tutankhamun 1922 - 2022
An exclusive gold coin issued by the State of Solomon Islands for 2022, weighing 1 g in the purest 99.9% gold with a Proof-like finish and minted with special 3D technology, is released on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun, the most important ancient Egyptian excavation.
The reverse side of the coin features a detailed 3D embossing of Pharaoh Tutankhamun's death mask. The precision of the embossing has made it possible to create a realistic sculpture of the mask with rich detail on a 1 gram coin.
The original death mask, taken from the mummy of Tutankhamun, is on display at the Egyptian Museum in Cairo. It depicts the modified form of the young king. The face is framed by the regal headdress of Nemes, which is complemented on the forehead by the emblems of Upper and Lower Egypt, a cobra and a vulture. An elaborate artificial beard is another symbol of power.
The discovery of Pharaoh Tutankhamun's tomb was made in the Valley of the Kings on 4 November 1922 by British archaeologist Howard Carter. The significance of the find was immediately apparent when it was discovered that the seals of the guardians of the burial chamber were intact at the entrance.
Carter and his patron Lord Carnarvon entered the 3,300-year-old sealed tomb on 26 November 1922. It was subsequently confirmed that the grave robbers had never penetrated the burial chamber and two other rooms. As a result, the sarcophagus and the rich burial equipment, which amazed the whole world, survived intact. The greatest amazement was the golden death mask, which became an iconic artefact of ancient Egypt.
Pharaoh Tutankhamun himself was one of the lesser rulers of the 18th dynasty known as the New Kingdom. He ascended the throne around 1353 BC at the age of 9. He died without heirs sometime around the age of 19, probably from an accident. Worldwide awareness of his life was brought about by the discovery of his tomb.
The obverse depicts a traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II with Ian Rank-Broadley's initials along with the inscriptions 'ELIZABETH II', 'SOLOMON ISLANDS', the denomination '10 DOLLARS', the year of issue '2022' and the weight and purity of the gold. At the top of the coin is the name "TUTANKHAMUN" and its design written in Egyptian hieroglyphics.
The coin comes in its original box with the anniversary edition logo and the years "1922 - 2022". Included is a certificate of authenticity in a limited edition of only 999 pieces for the whole world!
