The reverse side of the coin features a collage of the most important architectural monuments of the Kroměříž Municipal Conservation Reserve in the upper half. From the left are the Church of the Assumption, St. Moritz Church, the Archbishop's Castle and in the lower half of the coin is the Rotunda in the Garden of Flowers. At the bottom edge of the coin is the text 'CITY OF KROMĚŘÍŽ'. The year of mintage '2023' is placed above the depiction of the Archbishop's Castle. The initials of the author of the coin, Karolína Kučerová, DiS. are located at the bottom edge of the coin.

On the obverse side, the upper half of the coin depicts a part of the colonnade in the Garden of Flowers in Kroměříž with heraldic animals from the large state emblem between the columns. In the centre is a Czech lion, to the left of it a Moravian eagle and to the right of it a Silesian eagle. The lower half of the coin depicts the shadows of the heraldic animals and the columns. The text 'CZECH REPUBLIC' appears in the description at the top edge of the coin. At the bottom edge of the coin is the text 'MĚSTSKÉ PAMÁČKOVÉ REZERVACE' and the denomination of the coin with the abbreviation of the monetary unit '5 000 CZK'.

The origins of Kroměříž date back to the Middle Ages. The market settlement, situated at a ford at the crossroads of important trade routes and connecting the Danube and Baltic rivers, is recorded in the Arabic map Tabula Rogeriana as Arga.

The first written mention of Kroměříž dates back to 1107. It was sold in 1110 by Ota II of Olomouc. Černý to the bishop of Olomouc, Jan Břichatý, for 300 hryvnia. King Přemysl Otakar II confirmed this episcopal possession in 1207. Thus Kroměříž became the property of the Olomouc bishops for many centuries, who greatly influenced the architecture and development of the town.
Kroměříž was made a town by the bishop and advisor of the king Bruno of Schauenburg around 1260. A walled town with three gates and a Gothic castle as the summer seat of the bishops of Olomouc was built near the original settlement. The town centre consists of a new square market square with a town hall and a network of streets. The collegiate chapter with the Church of St. Moritz is founded west of the Great Square. The fire-damaged church of St. Wenceslas takes on the grand Gothic appearance of a cathedral.

At the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, the town, devastated during the Hussite Wars, flourished again. Bishop and humanist Stanislav Thurzo converts the Gothic castle into a Renaissance chateau residence.
Further blows were dealt to the town by the Swedish army during the Thirty Years' War and a plague epidemic. The town was sacked and burned twice in succession. Only 69 of the original 244 houses escaped destruction. Bishop Charles II Lichtenstein-Kastelkorn began extensive reconstruction of the town in the second half of the 17th century. The ruined Archbishop's Castle is rebuilt in a splendid early Baroque style. The original vegetable and fruit garden is rebuilt into the Baroque Subchateau Garden and in 1665 the unique ornamental Flower Garden is established. The Bishop's Mint, which is currently the last surviving mint in Moravia, is built on Sladovnické náměstí. The burgher and ecclesiastical buildings in the town acquire a look that Kroměříž has largely retained to this day.

The historic core of the town, which includes the remains of the town fortifications, the Archbishop's Castle and the two gardens, was declared a town conservation area in 1978.
