1/2 Oz Gold Coin - Bouzov Castle
The obverse of the coin features a detail of the castle wall with an arcade. Below the arches are hanging banners with heraldic animals from the great state emblem. The name of the state and the thematic cycle are placed around the coin's circumference, along with the denomination of the coin. Below the castle wall we find the mark of the Czech Mint, which produced the coin.
The reverse side of the coin depicts Bouzov Castle, including the entrance bridge and the walls. The name of the castle, the year of minting and the initials of the author of the coin are placed at the upper edge.
Bouzov Castle is one of the most popular sights in the Czech Republic and a favourite location for filmmakers. It is located in the village of the same name west of the town of Litovel in Central Moravia.
The foundation of the castle dates back to the beginning of the 14th century. However, its present appearance was created by extensive romantic reconstruction at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The owners of the castle, which was probably named after its first known holder, Búz of Búzov, changed frequently. A number of Czech and Moravian families changed its possession. In 1999 the castle was declared a national cultural monument. Today, Bouzov is a popular location for filming movies and television projects.
