5 Oz gold coin with pearl - Zeppelin
Following the huge success of the Titanic and Year of the Dragon silver pearl coins issued by the Fiji Islands, the Cook Islands is following up for 2013 with the release of another silver pearl coin, while also releasing its first gold pearl coin dedicated to the famous Zeppelin rigid airships.
The five ounce gold coin (155.5g) is struck in 999 finest gold proof quality and features an inner core of real mother-of-pearl. The coin is also issued to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the birth of the designer Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin.
The inner blue coloured mother-of-pearl rim on the reverse of the coin depicts the famous Graf Zeppelin airship over New York City and its first completed oceanic flight in 1928. The inscriptions on the outer rim are "RIGID AIRSHIP - THE ZEPPELIN" and the face value. The obverse shows a traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian-Rank Broadley and the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "COOK ISLANDS" and the year of issue "2013".
The coin comes in a deluxe oval-shaped gift box along with a numbered certificate of authenticity in a very limited edition of only 25 pieces for the entire world!
