5 Oz Gold Coin with Pearl - 50 years of Moon Landing
Following the huge success of the gold and silver pearl coins released in previous years in the "Mother of Pearl" series, 2019 sees the release of a pearl gold coin dedicated to one of the most significant events in human history - the 50th anniversary of the moon landing.
The five-ounce gold coin (155.5 g) released by Solomon Islands in 2018 is minted in 99.9% purest gold and features an inner core of genuine mother-of-pearl.
The inner red-orange coloured mother-of-pearl set into the coin depicts on its reverse the figure of the first man standing on the lunar surface. The lunar module and the American flag are placed next to the astronaut. In the background, in lunar orbit, the Apollo 11 spacecraft flies by and the planet Earth is visible in the starry sky above the horizon. The motif is complemented by the name of the space flight, 'APOLLO XI', during which the first man set foot on the Moon on 20 July 1969. The gold circle contains the inscription "50 YEARS OF MOON LANDING" and the denomination "200 DOLLARS". The obverse features a traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian-Rank Broadley and the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "SOLOMON ISLANDS", "5 Oz Au 999" and "2019".
The coin comes in a deluxe box featuring a crescent moon and the coin's name. The issue of these coins is limited to only 25 pieces for the whole world! An illustrated and numbered certificate of authenticity is also included.
