A Crown Jewel

Issued by the Royal Canadian Mint in 2018, this exclusive gold coin with rubies in premium proof quality of the purest 99.99% gold and weighing 60.8 grams is a Burmese ruby tiara of Elizabeth II and one of the few personal pieces of jewellery that the Queen did not inherit but had created.

The unique coin bears on its reverse a recreation of the Tudor heraldic rose used on the Burmese ruby tiara. The centre of the rose motif is made up of 17 genuine rubies and the surrounding petals are finished in selective platinum. The inscription "CANADA" appears at the top edge and the denomination "250 DOLLARS" appears at the bottom.
The production of the Burmese tiara was commissioned by the Queen in 1973 from the British jeweller Garrard. The precious stones used were given to her as wedding gifts. The rubies were received from the Burmese people and the diamonds were originally part of a floral tiara from the Muslim ruler of Hyderabad (a state in the Republic of India).

The obverse features a traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt with the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "D.G.REGINA" and the year of issue.

The coin comes in a deluxe box along with a numbered certificate of authenticity in a limited edition of only 175 pieces for the entire world!
