Detailed description
The Brazilian Aquamarine Tiara
An exclusive gold coin with aquamarines and diamonds issued by the Royal Canadian Mint in 2020 in top proof quality of the purest 99.99% gold and weighing 60.8 g, the Brazilian Aquamarine Tiara of Elizabeth II is one of the few personal jewels that the Queen did not inherit but had made.
The unique coin bears on its reverse a stylized image of one of the four side decorations of the aquamarine tiara. The platinum-plated fan-shaped jewel consists of one main and four narrow rectangular aquamarines, complemented by twelve small diamonds and two round aquamarines. The platinum decoration continues on the rim of the coin and connects the inscription "CANADA" at the top of the coin and the denomination "250 DOLLARS" at the bottom edge.
The first Brazilian aquamarines were given to Queen Elizabeth II by the President of Brazil as a gift for her coronation in 1953. It was a necklace and earrings, which were later complemented by a bracelet. In 1957, she extended the set with a matching tiara, which she had made by the royal jeweller Garrard. The tiara combined an elaborate platinum headband of diamonds and aquamarines and three large rectangular aquamarines flanked by diamonds. In 1971, it was redesigned and enhanced with additional aquamarines by the Governor of São Paulo. The tiara in its present form consists of a large central stone (the original pendant of the necklace) and four fan-shaped arabesques placed next to the original stones. The Brazilian aquamarine tiara is one of the tallest and most impressive pieces in her jewelry collection.
The obverse features a traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt with the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "D.G.REGINA" and the year of issue.
The coin comes in a luxury wooden box along with a numbered certificate for the coin and another confirming the authenticity of the diamonds and aquamarines. The mintage of the coin is limited to 175 pieces for the whole world!
