The reverse side of the coin is bordered by two laurel wreaths, ancient symbols of victory. The stylized background in the central part of the coin depicts a dove and below it silhouettes of soldiers. The motif is complemented by the inscriptions "75 YEARS", "END OF WWII", the mint mark "P" and the initials of the author "LB".
The most devastating war in human history began on 1 September 1939 with the invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany. Subsequently, France and Great Britain, along with the Commonwealth countries, declared war on Germany. The conflict eventually involved 61 countries with a population of 1.7 billion, a quarter of the world's population. 110 million people were mobilized and the cost was estimated at $1 trillion, more than all previous wars combined. Casualties were estimated at 60 million, of which 40 million were among civilians. The population was subjected to mass oppression due to political and racial ideology, which resulted in the Holocaust and genocide.
The beginning of the end of the war is considered to be the Allied landing in Normandy on 6 June 1944. The victorious advance of the Allied armies led Germany to surrender and achieve peace in Europe on 8 May 1945. Continued fighting in the Pacific was only ended by the use of American nuclear weapons at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Faced with an impasse, Japan signed an unconditional surrender on 2 September 1945, which also marked the end of World War II.
The obverse depicts a traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark with the initials 'JC', the inscriptions 'ELIZABETH II', 'AUSTRALIA', the year of issue '2020' and details of weight, purity and face value. The coin has the status of Australian legal tender under the Monetary Act 1965.
The coin is supplied in a presentation box and numbered certificate of authenticity in a limited mintage of 250 worldwide!
