Circulating coins and banknotes

Circulating coins and banknotes are an integral part of the times in which we live.

They are part of our everyday life. Their function is not only that they represent the current currency in a given country at a given time, but they also carry with them a reminder for future generations of what our parents, grandparents, etc. paid with. They are a carrier of the times.

Circulating Coins and Banknotes - Memories of Years Past...

Coins and banknotes are used by all of us and we encounter them in our daily lives. In our lifetime, each of us will pass through the hands of an uncountable number of circulating coins and banknotes, which accompany us throughout our lives. In our lifetime we also encounter change and some notes and coins disappear from circulation and are replaced by new ones. However, even when coins or banknotes are discontinued, many remain among people and are passed on from generation to generation. They not only serve as preservers of memories, reminders to our children, but also become valuable and collectible over time. Each coin and banknote of a given era represents a part of our lives and is a reminder of the time for generations to come.

Czech Mint - set of circulation coins

Every year, the Czech Mint, in cooperation with the Czech National Bank, issues a set of Czech circulation coins, which are accompanied by a commemorative token and placed in appropriate and representative packaging with motifs of the Czech Republic. The individual coins of the set are the coins of the year circulating in payment in the Czech Republic.

The set includes 1 CZK, 2 CZK, 5 CZK, 10 CZK, 20 CZK and 50 CZK. On each individual coin we find a symbol of our country, something from our history and this makes the coins also the bearers of the time. On the 1 Kč is depicted the St. Wenceslas crown, on the 2 Kč a button, i.e. a decorative jewel from the time of the Great Moravian Empire.

Higher denominations represent the architecture of the Czech Republic. The most famous bridge, the Charles Bridge, can be found on the 5 Kč, while the 10 Kč is a reminder of Brno's Petrov, i.e. the famous panorama of the Peter and Paul Cathedral. On 20 CZK we find the statue of St. Wenceslas on Wenceslas Square and on 50 CZK we find several historical buildings of our country and symbols of our capital city Prague - Charles Bridge, the National Theatre, St. Nicholas Church and Prague Castle with St. Vitus Cathedral.

As a matter of interest, the 50 CZK was declared the most beautiful circulating coin in the world in 1993.

Thecommemorative token, which is also included in each set, is also dedicated to Czech architecture and features the most beautiful Czech castles on the obverse side - Bouzov, Kost, Křivoklát, Karlštejn and Hlubokou. The reverse side belongs to Prague's monuments - the Old Town Hall with the Astronomical Clock, the Industrial Palace, the Powder Tower, the National Museum and Prague Castle.

Each set is issued bilingually and the cover again shows other monuments of the Czech Republic.
