Vienna Philharmonic 2012 deluxe set
In 2007, the premium edition of the Vienna Philharmonic set was published for the first time. From the start, this highly prestigious set was extremely successful. In the following years, this edition was always issued in strictly limited quantities of only 250 pieces for the whole world, which resulted in these editions selling out in a very short time in 2008 and 2009.
The set includes for the first time ever a 1 ounce gold coin (minted in pure 9999 gold) of the Wiener Philharmoniker plated in precious platinum and framed by a ring of pure 999 silver. The 1-ounce Wiener Philharmoniker silver coin is partly gilded with 24-carat gold and set in a ring of pure silver, also gilded with 24-carat gold. The set also includes a unique silver certificate (999/1000) with gold printing and engraved set number.
This exclusive 2012 edition is presented in a luxurious wooden box with a clear plexiglass lid and comes in a limited edition of only 250 pieces for the whole world!
Wiener Philharmoniker
The Wiener Philharmoniker (Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra), based in Vienna, is one of the most renowned classical music symphony orchestras in the world. In 2006 they were voted the best European classical orchestra.
The orchestra was founded on 28 March 1842 by Otto Nicolai (1810-1849). Until 1933, the Philharmonic elected a conductor for each season, who then conducted all subscription concerts (but did not carry the title of chief conductor). From that year onwards, this practice was abandoned and the orchestra was led by several guest conductors engaged for specific concerts or tours during the season. There was a special regime in 1933-1937, when Arturo Toscanini was engaged, and also in 1933-1945 and 1947-1954, when Wilhelm Furtwängler was engaged and held the post of artistic director until 1954. Conductor Bruno Walter played an important role in the orchestra's history in the 1930s and 1940s, performing works by Gustav Mahler with the Philharmonic.
A large number of distinguished conductors have worked with the orchestra, with a particularly long collaboration with conductors Karl Böhm, Herbert von Karajan and Leonard Bernstein, an honorary member of the orchestra since 1966.
