This exclusive gold coin, minted by the US Mint West Point in 2011 from the purest gold in top quality proof, is dedicated to the United States Army, which was founded on June 14, 1775 as the Continental Army to fight in the War of Independence, before the founding of the United States of America. Since its founding, more than 30 million men and women have served in the U.S. Army.
The coin displays the official U.S. Army emblem on its reverse, representing an unbroken history of loyalty and commitment to defending the nation. The design is surrounded by the inscriptions "DEPARTMENT OF THE ARMY", "E PLURIBUS UNUM", "1775", "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", the denomination and the mint mark "W". The obverse depicts soldiers of the U.S. Army from its founding to the present, from left: soldier of the Continental War, Civil War, Modern, World War II and World War I. The motif is complemented by the inscriptions "LIBERTY", "2011" and "IN GOD WE TRUST".
