OZNAMENI_CESKA_MINCOVNA

Seven important artists, seven exceptional medals - this is the series of silver commemorative coins of the Czech Mint called Art for Václav Havel. The last piece of this unusual puzzle is the work of David Černý, a controversial artist and recessionist, with a non-conformist depiction of St. Wenceslas. The title of the medal, "Still in a bad mood", is a paraphrase of a famous statement by Václav Havel - he used it during a speech in 1997 to describe the state of society at that time, but it aptly describes the current one.

The pink tank, the mutant babies on the Žižkov transmitter, the stereotypical Entropa, ... - whether you admire or condemn them, every Czech knows at least one work by this troublemaker. How many modern artists can say that about themselves? The sculpture "The Horse", which was originally placed in the lower part of Wenceslas Square, is now installed in the passage of the Lucerna Palace. It is a paraphrase of the famous equestrian statue by J. V. Myslbek - a dead horse with the Czech patron sitting on its belly is tied by the hooves and hung upside down under a glass dome, where it will remain until the constitutional monarchy returns to the lands of the Czech Crown.

The decadent and provocative statue, which symbolizes that although some things are upside down, we act as if everything is fine, is the main motif of the medal's obverse. It was jointly worked by David Černý and medalist MgA. Martin Dašek. St. Wenceslas is complemented by Černý's signature and the text STILL BAD HOPE. The reverse side is dedicated to the Prague Crossroads - a social centre housed in the Church of St. Anne, whose preservation was a great wish of Václav Havel. The Czech Mint is helping to fulfil this dream in cooperation with the Dagmar and Václav Havel Foundation VIZE 97, which will receive the proceeds from the sale of these medals.

As soon as the first 200 numbered pieces of the limited edition of 600 silver medals are sold out, the rest of the print run will be released for sale.
