The series of investment medals of the Czech Mint gradually presents our statutory cities. The thirteenth important seat of the Czech Republic immortalised in one kilogram of pure silver is Mladá Boleslav.
For most of us, the Central Bohemian metropolis is inseparably linked with the modern automotive industry. But Mladá Boleslav is also a place whose history goes back more than a thousand years. In the second half of the 10th century it was founded - first as a fortress - by Prince Boleslav II, called the Pious. A settlement then began to emerge in the sub-castle on the banks of the Jizera River, which was not exactly favourable to the following centuries. In the 13th century Mladá Boleslav was destroyed by fighting between the lords, in the 15th century it was repeatedly devastated by the Hussite wars and in the 17th century it was ravaged by the Thirty Years' War. Despite these hardships, the town prospered - for example, in 1518 the scholar Mikuláš Klaudyán, among others the author of the first printed map of Bohemia, established a printing house here, and from the 18th century the town began to become a centre of industry. The Slavia bicycle factory, founded in 1895, proved to be the most important of the many businesses. It soon became a motorcycle factory and then the Laurin & Klement car factory - today's Škoda Auto, which is the largest company in the Czech Republic.
The obverse side of medals from the Statutory Cities series always consists of two elements - an architectural landmark and an aerial view of the city centre. The depiction of Mladá Boleslav Castle, which was originally a Premyslid stronghold, then a Gothic castle and finally a Renaissance castle, is the work of the talented medal maker Irena Hradecká, DiS. The author of the detailed bird's-eye view of the city is Jakub Matouš, DiS., and the two artworks have been combined by Petra Brodská, DiS. The reverse side of the issues from the series of kilogram investment medals remains unchanged - on the map of the Czech Republic from the workshop of MgA. Miroslav Schovanec, DiS., all statutory cities are marked and their names are deflated behind it.
Only 24 pieces of the majestic medals will be produced, each of which is hand-numbered on the edge and placed in a luxurious wooden case.
