Detailed description
Chinese Panda
The Chinese silver investment Panda coins were first minted by the Chinese State Mint in 1983, 1984, 1985 with a weight of 27 g in Proof quality, with a purity of 900/1000 and a mintage of only 10,000 pieces. After a one-year hiatus, China issued another coin in 1987. These coins were struck at 1 Oz (31.1g ) in 925/1000 Proof quality and in a mintage of only 31,000 pieces.
In 1989, China began minting coins from the purest 99.9% pure silver. Despite their higher price, they are popular with investors and a sought-after collector's item, primarily because of the annual reverse change. The only exceptions were the 2000 and 2001 vintages, where the reverse motif is identical. In 2015, the coins were struck for the first time without weight and fineness markings.
In 2016, China switched to the metric system instead of the previously used Anglo-American system of imperial weight units in troy ounces. The coin is being issued for the first time in history with a weight of 30 g (10 Yuan) and is again stamped with the weight and purity (.999).
On the reverse side of the coins, a new 10-year series has begun in 2019, taking us through the life story of a panda. Each year's designs will depict the panda from the smallest cub to the adult.
The 2019 motif: the series opens with a newborn cub in its mother's arms
The 2020 motif: a baby panda, chewing bamboo, expresses the first steps towards independence
Motif 2021: the panda has grown up again and climbs the tree branches under the supervision of its mother
Motif 2022: a panda enjoys winter fun in the company of a peer. The special edition is complemented by a mintmark consisting of the numerals of the anniversary of the first minting of gold investment coins "40", which incorporates a small silhouette of a panda. The winter motif refers to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympic Games.
The 2023 motif: the panda has reached adulthood, yet remains sociable and playful
Motif 2024: the panda becomes a caring mother
The individual motifs are complemented by the denomination, weight and purity.
The obverse of the coins is traditionally unchanged and depicts the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, Chinese characters with the meaning People's Republic of China and the year of issue.
