Britannia 2010
Minted by The Royal Mint since 1997, the Britannia silver investment coin is a very popular investment and collector coin. It has been minted since 1997 in a purity of .958, or 95.8% purest silver, 4.2% copper, and in weights of 1/10 Oz, 1/4 Oz, 1/2 Oz and 1 Oz. The ounce coin weighed exactly 32.454 grams by 2012 and contained a full ounce (1 Oz - 31.1g) of pure silver.
Obverse
depicts Ian Rank-Brodley's portrait of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II with the artist's initials "IRB" looking to the right. The portrait is surrounded by the inscriptions "ELIZABETH 'II' D'G", "REG FID DEF" and the denomination.
Reverse
unusually depicts a Britannie motif by sculptor Suzie Zamit. The portrait of a helmeted woman with flowing hair, looking to the right, symbolizes attention and protection. Britannie's strength is depicted in the form of a lion's head incorporated into the helmet. The motif is surrounded by the inscriptions "BRITANNIA", "ONE OUNCE FINE SILVER" and the year of issue.
