Biblical Stories series
An exclusive silver coin issued by the Republic of Palau in 2011 from the Biblical Stories series depicts the Testament of the First Commandment on its reverse (coloured by a unique crushed colouring technique, which produces amazingly realistic colors) in the background, rejoicing Jews at the pagan symbol of the worship of the golden calf, with the all-seeing eye of God above them, along with the inscriptions "YOU SHALL HAVE NO OTHER GODS BEFORE ME", "THE TEN COMMANDMENTS", and the year of publication placed at the bottom. The obverse depicts the state emblem of the Republic of Palau, an open bible surrounded by a light with the words "BIBLICAL STORIES" and the denomination.
The coin comes in a blue gift box with grey and silver trim along with a numbered certificate of authenticity in a limited edition of only 1000 pieces for the entire world!
Ten
The Ten Commandments or Decalogue are considered by Jews and Christians to be the commands (commandments) that God - the Lord - gave to humans as a directive for a way of life. According to the Old Testament, God gave the two tablets of commandments at Mount Sinai into the hands of Moses. The commandments are listed twice in the Bible; the first time in the book of Exodus, the second time in the book of Deuteronomy.
The Ten Commandments are central to ethics in Judaism and Christianity. In Christianity, the importance of the Ten Commandments for man's salvation has been fulfilled according to Jesus - the dual commandment of love of God and love of neighbor has taken over the resulting role. However, Judaism also sees in this double commandment the fulfillment of the Mosaic Law (Torah).
The Ten Commandments are regarded as a "catechetical summary of morality"; they were recited in the Temple of Jerusalem, and devout Jews recite them daily at morning prayer. While for the Jews its validity is limited to the nation brought out of Egyptian bondage, in Christian catechesis it is given universal validity.
The Ten Commandments are often regarded as an "ethical minimum" in European culture and outside the religious circle, since the 4th to 10th commandments of the Ten Commandments define basic interpersonal relationships (the so-called 2nd tablet of the Law). However, knowledge of the text of the Ten Commandments is not universal.
The traditional interpretation assumes that the Law as it stands today, including the Ten Commandments, was received by Moses at Sinai. This is held by both orthodox Jews, the Talmud, and fundamentalist Christians.
