Detailed description

Silver Commemorative Coin

RAZITKO_POSTOVNE_ZDARMA_NENI

Shroud of Turin

An exclusive rectangular silver coin issued by the Cook Islands State in 2020 weighing 1 Oz (31.1 g) in purity of the purest 99.9% silver with an Antique Standard finish, the Shroud of Turin is a famous relic of the Catholic Church.

The reverse side of the coin features a highlighted reproduction of the Shroud of Turin. The impression of a male figure, which is supposed to be the body of Jesus Christ after his removal from the cross, clearly emerges from the fine texture of the cloth. The precise textile warp and the shaded raised relief on the patinated surface are created by Smartminting embossing technology. The sophisticated visual effect thus maintains respect for the original. The coin's motif is framed by a raised edge, with the subtle inscription "SHROUD OF TURIN" at the top and the year of issue "2020" at the bottom.
The Shroud of Turin is one of the most enigmatic relics of the Catholic Church. The hand-woven cloth, in which the dead body of Jesus Christ was supposedly wrapped, has been preserved since 1578 in the chapel of Turin's Cathedral of St John the Baptist. The death shroud bears the visible imprint of a male face and figure with traces of blood from the crucifixion. Research into the authenticity began in 1978 and in the following decades a number of laboratories around the world became involved. The radiocarbon method determined the creation of the iconic canvas around 1325, which also corresponds to the first record of its display in 1389. The Catholic Church itself does not insist on the authenticity of the artefact and sees its value as a symbol of the Passion of Jesus Christ.

The obverse bears a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain by Ian Rank-Broadley with the artist's initials. The inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "COOK ISLANDS" and the denomination "5 DOLLARS" are included.

The coin comes in a presentation case, which also serves as a certificate of authenticity, in a limited edition of only 700 pieces for the whole world!

Smartminting® is a revolutionary technology in modern numismatics. The greatest advantage is the dramatic and unsurpassed heights of relief combined with intricate detail. High and ultra-high relief is possible on both sides of the coin and the top of the relief can be placed as close as the edge. The conventional embossing process not only requires more material (higher weight), but more importantly, the highest point must be concentrated in the center of the coin, which does not reach the same height as with Smartminting® technology. Another bonus of Smartminting® technology is the highest quality Proof and coloured coins, of course the Antique Standard finish remains.
