Detailed description
A Sense of Duty, A Life of Service
The exclusive 2022 Royal Canadian Mint silver coin, weighing 1 Oz (31.16 g) of the purest 99.99% silver in premium proof quality, is a tribute to Queen Elizabeth II for her sense of duty and life of service.
The coin is being released as part of the RCM's special commemorative 'Queen Elizabeth II's Reign' issue, which features a four-portrait image of the Queen on the obverse.
The design on the reverse was created by Canadian artist Laurie McGaw. She captured Elizabeth II in a regal portrait from the day of her coronation on 2 June 1953, wearing the Crown of the British Empire. The national plant motifs - the maple leaf of Canada, the rose of England, the thistle of Scotland, the daffodil of Wales and the shamrock of Ireland - set the frame for the likeness. The inscription "CANADA" and the denomination "20 DOLLARS" appear at the top edge of the coin.
Queen Elizabeth II was born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary of the House of Windsor in London on April 21, 1926. She became Queen at just 25 years of age after the sudden death of her father, George VI. The coronation at Westminster Abbey on 2 June 1953 was watched by more than 20 million Britons in front of television screens and radio sets.
Elizabeth II was the formal monarch of the Commonwealth nations and other sovereign states, including their territories and dependencies, as well as the supreme authority of the Church of England. For 70 years of her reign, she provided stability and security for her subjects. This devotion has earned her respect, which has strengthened her reverence for British traditions. In 2022, she celebrated her platinum jubilee as the longest reigning British monarch on record. She died on 8 September 2022 at the age of 96 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland.
The obverse bears four coin portraits of Elizabeth II struck on Canadian coins linked together (the portrait artists, from left: Susanna Blunt (2003-2022), Dora de Pédery-Hunt (1990-2002), Arnold Machin (1965-1989) and Mary Gillick (1953-1964)). The likenesses represent guides to the various stages of the Queen's reign recorded in numismatic art. They are completed by the years of reign '1952' and '2022', separated by a Tudor rose, and the inscription 'ELIZABETH II D-G-REGINA'.
The coin comes in a luxury box with a numbered certificate and a limited edition of 10,000 pieces for the whole world!
