70th Anniversary of the Royal Marriage
Issued by the State of Tokelau in 2017, this unique star-shaped silver coin, minted from the purest 99.9% silver and weighing 1 Oz in top quality proof, celebrates the 70th anniversary of the marriage between Princess Elizabeth and Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten. The wedding took place at Westminster Abbey, London on 20 November 1947. Philip renounced his Greek and Danish titles of nobility and shortly after the wedding received the rank of Royal Prince and Duke of Edinburgh. Elizabeth was crowned Queen on 2 June 1953.
The central part of the reverse of the coin depicts the royal couple in their wedding dress against a coloured background of the interior of Westminster Abbey. Its exterior, on the other hand, is struck into the left part of the silver coin. The royal carriage is then depicted on the right. The design is flanked by flowers, the names ELIZABETH and PHILIP, King George IV's state diadem with the initials 'EP' (top) and the anniversary date '70 TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY' (bottom). The obverse bears the Tokelau state emblem below Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, which is surrounded by the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "TOKELAU 2017", weight, purity, denomination and the artist's initials "IRB".
