Issued by the British Royal Mint in 2020, this 1/2 Oz silver coin, in Proof grade 99.9% purest silver, is part of the Music Legends series celebrating iconic British artists. The second coin features singer and songwriter Elton John, who has written many of the world's greatest hits. This musician also personally approved the realized design.

Artist Bradley Morgan Johnson drew inspiration for the coin's reverse design from a number of famous records. The singer is represented by the inseparable spectacles such as the joined notes, the straw hat trimmed with ribbon and the bow tie. These three attributes are set against the backdrop of the British flag. The motif is completed by the musician's name 'ELTON JOHN' with an inset star within the letters 'O'.
Sir Elton Hercules John was born on 25 March 1947 in London as Reginald Kenneth Dwight. He has been making music since the age of 16. He began by playing the piano and later as a writer of ballads for other artists. He released his first album in the late 1960s. His second album in 1970 included the ballad Your Song, which was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998. Other hits include Rocket Man (1972), Candle in the Wind (1973) and I'm Still Standing (1983). He won an Oscar and a Grammy Award for the title song Can You Feel the Love Tonight (1994) for the animated film The Lion King. One of the UK's most successful solo singers and songwriters, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. He was elevated to the peerage by Elizabeth II in 1998 for his musical contributions and charity work.

The obverse shows a traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark with the inscription "ELIZABETH II. D.G.REG.F.D.", information about the denomination "1 POUNDS" and the year of issue "2020".
