Detailed description
Haab calendar - Mayan calendar
The exclusive silver coin, partially filled with semi-permeable resin, issued by the State of Niue in 2023 in high relief weighing 2 Oz (62.2 g) in the purest 99.9% silver with Antique Standard finish, is inspired by the Mayan culture and brings an original take on the Haab calendar.
The reverse design depicts a man bending down to the ground carrying a symbolic heavy object on his back, depicted in Mayan imagery. The rim of the coin is decorated with die-cuts of 18 individual months highlighted with semi-translucent resin in red, yellow and blue.
The term "Haab" refers to a part of the Mayan calendar system used by some indigenous people of Central America. The calendar consists of 18 periods of 20 days, for a total of 360 days. These periods are the equivalent of months. There is also a 19th period of five Wayeb days, which are called "soulless" and have a reputation for danger.
The obverse shows the Niue national emblem, the denomination "2 DOLLARS" and the year of issue "2023". Included are the purity details.
The coin comes in a presentation box which contains a certificate of authenticity. The mintage is limited to 500 pieces for the whole world!
