Detailed description

Silver commemorative coin coloured

RAZITKO_POSTOVNE_ZDARMA_NENI

Jellyfish series

This exclusive silver coin issued by Pitcairn Islands in 2011 from the Jellyfish series depicts a beautifully wet-dyed Mediterranean jellyfish (a unique dyeing technique that provides amazingly realistic colours) on its reverse, along with the inscriptions "COTYLORHIZA TUBERCULATA" and the year of issue. The obverse shows a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II..

The coin comes in a blue gift box with grey and silver trim along with a numbered certificate of authenticity in a limited edition of only 1000 pieces for the entire world!

Medusa

The jellyfish is a stage in the life cycle of stingrays in which the body is expanded (often greatly) in width. The first stage is the polyp.

Jellyfish come in a variety of shapes, not only bell-shaped but also flattened (only slightly convex at the top and slightly bulging at the bottom). The upper surface is called the exumbrella and the lower part the subumbrella. The mouth is located at the bottom. The digestive cavity consists of a lobe and radially placed ducts that point outwards. At the edge of the disc are the sensory organs and tentacles.

The largest jellyfish is probably the giant saucer jellyfish (Cyanea capillata) found in the North Atlantic. On rare occasions, specimens have been found measuring 2 metres wide and 37 metres long at the shoulder. It is therefore actually the longest animal ever, surpassing the minke whale in length.
