Forbidden city Caisson - Bimetallic Coin
The unique bimetallic coin issued by the State of Chad in 2022 consists of a 33.5 Oz copper core plated with 2 Oz of 99.9% silver with an antique finish. The coin conveys the aesthetic experience of a unique architectural feature such as the caisson ceiling of the Hall of Supreme Harmony in the Forbidden City.
The reverse side of the coin creates a faithful replica of the caisson ceiling in the Hall, which was the site for the most important ceremonies associated with the majesty of the Emperor, using the new Bi-Metal Max high relief embossing technique. The coin's square format and 12 x 12 cm size provides adequate space for geometrically arranged cartridges with sharply marked corners and diagonal intersections. The detailed striking allows the fine carving to be captured, including the supreme mythological creatures protecting the ruling dynasty. The most sacred dragon in the center of the caisson, along with smaller ones in adjacent fields, depict strength, power, and good fortune. The phoenix brings harmony and peace, and the bat is the bearer of health, longevity, love and wealth.
The caisson ceiling is considered the pinnacle of architectural decoration in China, found only inside the most important palaces and temples. It is a central coffered element recessed above the ceiling level. It directly covers the imperial throne or the deity being worshipped. The wooden structure consists of a system of interconnected Dougong brackets without the use of glue or fasteners. The rich decoration of bas-relief wood carvings and paintings graduates towards the centre of the caisson.
The obverse of the coin projects the internal form of the caisson ceiling structure, in the centre of which is placed the national emblem of the Republic of Chad and the year of issue. The coffer border indicates the name of the state and the face value of the coin.
The coin comes in a gift box with a certificate of authenticity in a limited edition of 888 pieces for the whole world.
