The Czech Mint's Endangered Nature series regularly features representatives of Czech fauna and flora on the Red List. The second coloured silver coin of 2017 belongs to the bulbous lily .
Only two species of lilies grow wild in the Czech Republic. One of them is the "Lilium bulbiferum". Although it is relatively abundant in Europe, it is a highly endangered species in our country. It grows at higher altitudes - in the foothills and mountains - and so you will find it especially in border mountain areas. You will know it at a glance. It has very striking orange-red flowers that are more than 10 centimetres across and, as its name suggests, its stem is usually dotted with a number of rounded tubercles. As with most endangered species, the main enemy of this lily is human carelessness.
The artwork of the coin is the work of an experienced medallist MgA. Martin Dašek. The reverse side is dominated by the depiction of the plant in vivid colours, which was achieved using pad printing technology. The glass rhinestone, which traditionally completes the composition, is also coloured. The description then gives the complete Czech and Latin name LILIE CIBULKONOSNÁ, LILIUM BULBIFERUM L. The obverse is dedicated to ornamental floral motifs and the necessary requirements of the licensor for issuing coins of the Czech Mint. This is the island of Niue and its attributes consist of the name and portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of issue 2017 and its face value of 1 DOLLAR (NZD).
