A collectible series of coloured silver coins called Endangered Nature features plants and animals on endangered species lists. The second animal issue of 2017 is dedicated to the green lizard.
One does not easily forget an encounter with a green lizard. It is the largest of the four species of lizards living in the Czech Republic. It grows to a length of over 40 centimetres, with half of its body made up of its tail. As its name suggests, it has a striking green colour. It is a predator and its food consists mainly of insects. But its size means it can also take on other reptiles, birds and rodents. It likes light and warmth, and the Czech Republic forms the very northern limit of its range. Unfavourable weather conditions are one of the factors that have led to its critical endangerment in this country. Another risk is changes in suitable habitats, to which the lizard is very susceptible.
The reverse side of the coin is the work of experienced medallist MgA. Martin Dašek and bears two different views of the reptile. The first is in relief and shows the lizard in its natural habitat - climbing on a dry branch. The second view presents the lizard in vivid colours, which were achieved by the tampon printing technology. The description gives the name of the species in Czech and Latin: LACERTA VIRIDIS VIRIDIS. The coins themselves are minted by the Czech Mint under licence from the island of Niue, and the obverse side is therefore - in addition to the sculptural depiction of a wild natural scenery from the workshop of ac. sculptor. Majka Wichnerová - bears the attributes of this issuer: the profile and name of the monarch Elizabeth II, the nominal value of 1 DOLLAR (NZD) and the year of issue 2017.
