Detailed description
Drowner
An exclusive silver coin partially filled with semi-permeable resin issued by the State of Niue in 2022 in high relief weighing 2 Oz (62.2 g) in the purest 99.9% silver with Antique Standard finish finds inspiration in Slavic mythology and represents the water creature that was the dreaded drowner.
The reverse side motif captures the mysterious atmosphere of the night. The strange creature wades to the shore on a full moon night to seek its next victim. The image of the drowning man combines human features with the distinctive features of aquatic animals. The world beneath the water's surface is revealed by a semi-permeable coloured resin filling. The moon, shining through the branches of bare trees, is coloured by digital printing technology.
The drowned were suicides or unbaptized people who died by drowning. Then, as green-skinned creatures, they lived in deep pools and came ashore only as new moons. They gave riddles to passers-by and took their human souls, which they collected in their dwellings. They were attributed with pouring out rivers and flooding. The companion of the drowning man was said to be a wild woman.
The obverse shows the traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain with the initials of the artist and the inscriptions 'ELIZABETH II', 'NIUE ISLANDS', the denomination and year of issue. It includes purity information and mint mark.
The coin is supplied in a presentation box which contains a certificate of authenticity. The mintage is limited to 500 pieces for the whole world!
