Detailed description

Diamond Diadem - George IV. State Diadem

An exclusive silver coin with Swarovski crystals issued by the Royal Canadian Mint in 2022 in Proof quality of the purest 99.99% silver weighing 31.39 grams, this diamond diadem was made for the King but made famous by Queens including Elizabeth II at her coronation in 1953.

The unique coin bears on its reverse a stylised image of the central part of the diamond tiara. The rhodium-plated element consists of a pawed cross (Cross Pattée) with a yellow crystal in the centre. A clear crystal is set into each of the four curved arms. The cross is flanked by an elaborate bouquet of national floral motifs. The rose blossoms are complemented by two smaller crystals. The coin is inscribed "CANADA" at the top edge and the denomination "20 DOLLARS" at the bottom edge. The Proof matte finish adds a luxurious touch
The diamond diadem is also referred to as the George IV State Diadem. It was commissioned by George IV in 1820 from the London jewellery firm of Rundell & Bridge. He wore this flamboyant diamond crown, mounted on a velvet 'chapeau gules' hat, during the ceremonial procession to his coronation in Westminster Abbey.
The 7.5-centimetre-high jewel is adorned with 1,333 brilliant-cut diamonds, including a 4-carat yellow diamond set in the centre of the main clawed cross. The four crosses, arranged around the base, alternate with four bouquets of roses, thistles and shamrocks to symbolise England, Scotland and Ireland. Two rows of pearls and diamonds flank the base of the tiara.
George IV was the only man to wear the tiara. After his death it became part of the jewellery boxes of queens and queen consorts. The famous tiara's distinctive shape is depicted in the official portraits of both Queen Victoria and Elizabeth II. The symbolism of the tiara was also used by Elizabeth II in the ceremonial procession to her own coronation in 1953. The same diamond crown identifies her majesty on many postage stamps, coins or banknotes in the UK and Commonwealth countries. It inherently belongs with the Queen at the annual Opening of Parliament ceremony. The Diamond Tiara is one of the oldest and most important jewels in the Royal Treasury.

The obverse features a traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt with the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "D.G.REGINA" and the year of issue.

The coin comes in a deluxe box along with a numbered certificate and a limited edition of 4,500 pieces for the whole world!
