An exclusive silver coin issued by Pitcairn Islands in 2010 from the Deep Sea Fish series depicts a beautifully wet-dyed predatory fish, the Johnson's Bighead (a unique dyeing technique that provides amazingly realistic colours) on its reverse, along with the inscriptions "MELANOCETUS JOHNSONII" and the year of issue. The obverse shows a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II..

The Johnson's bigeye, also known as the black devil, Melanocetus johnsonii is a marine fish of the ray-finned class, found in the depths of the oceans up to 2000 metres deep. Male anglerfish measure 3 centimetres and females up to 20 centimetres.
