Deep Sea Fish series
This exclusive silver coin issued by Pitcairn Islands in 2010 from the Deep Sea Fish series features a beautifully wet-dyed luminous fish - Myctophios - on its reverse (a unique dyeing technique that provides amazingly realistic colours), along with the inscriptions "LANTERNFISH MYCTOPHIOS" and the year of issue. The obverse shows a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II..
The coin comes in a blue gift box with grey and silver trim along with a numbered certificate of authenticity in a limited edition of only 1000 pieces for the entire world!
Bioluminescence
Bioluminescence is chemoluminescence used by living organisms. It is the emission (emission) of light by some groups of organisms. The whole process results from the oxidation of luciferin in the presence of the enzyme luciferase. This reaction emits up to 96% of light and only 4% of heat, so it is very efficient from the point of view of the organisms involved (in comparison, only 10% for discharge lamps).
