Detailed description
The Brazilian Aquamarine Tiara
A unique silver coin with Swarovski crystals issued by the Royal Canadian Mint in 2020 in matte proof quality of the purest 99.99% silver weighing 31.39 g, the Brazilian Aquamarine Tiara of Elizabeth II is one of the few personal jewels that the Queen did not inherit but had made.
The unique coin bears on its reverse a stylized likeness of one of the four side decorations of the aquamarine tiara. The rhodium-plated fan-shaped jewel consists of one main and four narrow rectangular stones in aqua. They are complemented by twelve small clear Swarovski crystals and two round-shaped aqua stones. The sparkling crystals set in a polished setting contrast beautifully against the matte surface of the proof. The polished decoration continues on the rim of the coin, connecting the inscription "CANADA" at the top of the coin and the denomination "20 DOLLARS" at the bottom edge.
The first Brazilian aquamarine was given to Queen Elizabeth II by the President of Brazil as a gift for her coronation in 1953. It was a necklace and earrings, which were later complemented by a bracelet. In 1957, she extended the set with a matching tiara, which she had made by the royal jeweller Garrard. The tiara combined an elaborate platinum headband of diamonds and aquamarines and three large rectangular aquamarines flanked by diamonds. In 1971, it was redesigned and enhanced with additional aquamarines by the Governor of São Paulo. The tiara in its present form consists of a large central stone (the original pendant of the necklace) and four fan-shaped arabesques placed next to the original stones. The Brazilian aquamarine tiara is one of the tallest and most impressive pieces in her jewelry collection.
The obverse features a traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt with the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "D.G.REGINA" and the year of issue.
The coin comes in a leatherette box along with a numbered certificate of authenticity. The mintage of the coin is limited to 4,000 pieces for the whole world!
