Detailed description
Moon landing 50th Anniversary
A 26.73 g silver convex coin issued by the US Mint in 2019 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Moon landing. The coin is encased in a 2 ounce (62.2 g) silver ingot, and both the coin and ingot are in top proof quality and purity of the purest 99.99% silver.
The coin and ingot bear a loose reproduction of the famous photograph of the first ascent to the lunar surface on its reverse. The background of the lunar landscape shows a close-up view of astronaut Aldrin. The visor of his helmet reflects the figure of the second astronaut Armstrong, the Lunar Module Eagle and the American national flag. The astronaut's helmet, which covers the entire surface of the convex coin, is accompanied by the name of the country "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", the denomination "ONE DOLLAR" and the US motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" ("Out of many, one"). The ingot is accompanied by the inscription '50th ANNIVERSARY MOON LANDING', the national symbol of the USA - the bald eagle, the anniversary years '1969 - 2019', the weight and fineness of the ingot '2 OZ AG .9999' and an individual number at the right edge.
The obverse of the coin bears the imprint of a footprint on the lunar surface, the combined names of the space projects "MERCURY", "GEMINI", "APOLLO", the year of issue "2019" and the inscriptions "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST".
The silver ingot on the obverse side shows the Moon from its orbit, which is crossed by US spacecraft, and the years of duration of the Mercury "1958-1963", Gemini "1965-1966", Apollo "1961-1972" manned flight programmes.
The coin and ingot are housed in an elegant box with a certificate of authenticity in a limited edition of only 1,969 pieces for the entire world!
The goal of the Apollo 11 space flight was to land a manned mission on the Moon, ascend to its surface and return safely to Earth. The mission participants were Commander Neil Armstrong, Lunar Module Pilot Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin and Command Module Pilot Michael Collins. The Apollo 11 comet was carried into Earth orbit by a Saturn rocket on July 16, 1969. Three days later, a manned flight orbited the Moon, and on July 20, 1969, the Eagle space module with Armstrong and Aldrin aboard landed on the Moon in the Sea of Tranquility (Mare Tranquillitatis). On July 21, at 2:56:15 UTC, Neil Armstrong became the first man to step onto the lunar surface and uttered memorable words: "It is a small step for man, but a great leap for mankind". Together with Aldrin, they spent 2.5 hours outside the lunar module and collected nearly 22 kg of rocks. After 21.5 hours, they returned to the Columbia command module, which for that time was piloted in orbit only by Collins. They returned to Earth on July 24 by landing in the Pacific Ocean.
