Detailed description

Silver Coin 500 CZK - Famous Motorcycle Jawa 250

The reverse side of the 500th coin depicts a Jawa 250 motorcycle standing on a floor consisting of a partial motif from the emblem of its manufacturer and two fragments from the technical drawings of the motorcycle. The authentic colouring of the motorcycle is indicated on the coin by the use of red and black synthetic enamel. The text "JAWA 250" appears at the top edge of the coin, while the text "2022" appears at the right edge of the coin. The initials of the coin's author Petra Brodská, DiS., which consist of the interconnected letters "P" and "B", are placed at the left edge of the coin.

The obverse side of the five hundredth crown depicts three views of parts of a Jawa 250 motorcycle. The text "CZECH" is placed at the upper left edge of the coin. The text 'REPUBLIKA' is placed at the bottom right edge of the coin. The denomination of the coin with the abbreviation of the monetary unit '500 CZK' is located in the upper right part of the coin.

Jawa 250

The first motorcycle Jawa 250 was produced in 1935 by the same company in Týnec nad Sázavou. The original company founded by Ing. František Janeček was an armament factory specializing in hand grenades of its own design. Subsequent expansion of production included motorcycles and small series of cars. It was the purchase of a licence for the production of Wanderer motorcycles in 1929 that led to the merger of the names into the form JAWA.

The glorious era of the Jawa motorcycle began in 1946 after the resumption of pre-war production. In the same year at the Paris Motor Show, the Jawa 250 with an engine displacement of 249 cc aroused great interest among experts and laymen alike. The motorcycle of the chief designer Josef Jozif was ahead of other manufacturers' machines in its technical design and became the winner in its category. The machine stood out at the time for its revolutionary compact layout and rear wheel suspension system, which earned it the nickname Perak.

Mass production and export to more than 100 countries followed. Between 1946 and 1954, around 160,000 Jawa 250 motorcycles were produced. In 1954, a new type of Jawa 250/353 called Kyvacka was launched, and in 1962 a type of Jawa 250/559 called Panelka. In total, 959,771 Jawa 250 class motorcycles were produced over 85 years with various variations and modifications.

Each silver coin is placed in a protective plastic capsule in a dark blue box. An integral part of the box is a certificate of authenticity issued by the CNB.
