Lost Civilizations - Babylonia - 5 Oz Ultra High Relief

A unique silver and partially colored coin issued by the State of Palau for 2022 weighing 5 Oz (155.5 g) of the purest 99.9% silver with Antique Standard finish and extra high relief is released as part of the "Lost Civilizations" series, which features Babylon on the first coin.

The motif on the reverse side of the coin brings the ancient city of Babylon to life using Smartminting technology. The detailed scene depicts a panorama with the mythical Tower of Babel touching the heavens and the hanging gardens of the palace. The city's prosperity and exhibition architecture is supported by selective colouring, which faithfully interprets the blue-glazed tiles with animal motifs on Ishtar's Gate.
Babylon was the capital of Babylonia, a kingdom in ancient Mesopotamia, between the 18th and 6th centuries BC. It was built along both banks of the Euphrates River with steep embankments to hold back seasonal floods. Babylon spent long periods under the rule of the Assyrians, Kassites and Elamites. After being destroyed and rebuilt by the Assyrians, it became the capital of the Neo-Babylonian Empire from 609 to 539 BC. The Hanging Gardens of Semiramid were one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. After the fall of the Neo-Babylonian Empire, the city came under the rule of the Achaemenid, Seleucid, Parthian, Roman and Sasanian empires.

The obverse uses the high relief Smartminting to create the figure of a Babylonian soldier with a horse in front of the city walls. Included is the state emblem of the Republic of Palau with the inscription "REPUBLIC OF PALAU", the year of issue and the denomination "$20".
