Big Five 5 Oz Buffalo - High Relief
The unique 2020 silver coin issued by the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire is minted from the purest 99.9% silver and weighs 155.5 g (5 Oz). This five-ounce coin is part of the highly successful Big Five series.
The reverse of the coin shows a detailed representation of a buffalo head. The portrait is underlined by the high relief processing technology and antique design. The motif is surrounded by the weight "5 OZ", the fineness "999 AG" and the inscriptions "MAUQUOY" (name of the Belgian mint), "HAUT-RELIEF" (high relief in French) and "BUFFALO" (name of the animal). The design also includes the maker's mark.
The African buffalo (Syncerus caffer) is a robust herbivore characterised by its curved horns that touch at the forehead. Its three subspecies differ in size and inhabit the grassy savannahs, swampy areas and rainforests south of the African Sahara.
It lives in small family herds, but sporadic groups of thousands have been recorded. It is very aggressive when disturbed or attacked. Of the Big Five, it has been responsible for the most fatal attacks on humans. It is also an equal opponent to lions, which are the only predators of adults.
The obverse depicts the national emblem of Côte d'Ivoire with the inscriptions "REPUBLIQUE DE COTE D'IVOIRE", the year of issue "2020" and the denomination "5000 FRANCS CFA". The edge of the coin is numbered.
The coin comes in a luxury wooden gift box along with a numbered certificate of authenticity in a limited edition of only 999 pieces for the whole world!
