This exclusive silver coin, issued by Cook Islands in the Masterpieces of Art (Premium Edition) series and precision struck by the German mint B.H. Mayer in 2014, weighing 3 Oz (93.3 g) in the purest 99.9% silver finest proof quality, is dedicated to Michelangelo Buonarroti's famous Renaissance sculpture Pieta. The silver coin incorporates a 1/4 Oz (7.78 g) rectangular gold inlay of the purest 99.9% gold with 26 Swarovski crystals.
On its reverse, the coin depicts on the gold inlay a detailed replica of Michelangelo's Pieta on a coloured background with a cross, as it appears in St. Peter's Basilica. The inlay is framed by 26 crystals. The following inscriptions on the silver coin are "MASTERPIECES OF ART", "MICHELANGELO BUONARROTI" and the year of issue. The obverse shows a traditional portrait of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II by Ian-Rank Broadley with the initials "IRB" and the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "COOK ISLANDS" and the denomination.
