OCTOPUS 3 Oz - Thermochromic enamel colour
The specially shaped 3 Oz (93.3 g) Antique Standard silver coin issued by the State of Barbados for 2024 in the finest 99.9% silver purity demonstrates the amazing ability to change the colour of the Octopus using innovative thermochromic enamel technology.
The reverse design defines the shape of the coin and captures the octopus motif in its marine environment. The main parts of the body are filled with thermochromic enamel, which changes hue and brightness when the body temperature is reached.
Octopuses are among the masters of camouflage. It can change the colour and texture of its skin and at the same time secrete an ink that confuses predators. Because it has no bones in its body, apart from its beak, it can radically change its shape and squeeze through small gaps. It is one of the most intelligent invertebrates. For example, they use their shells as a tool to hunt prey, or they can tear out the stinging part of a Portuguese bladderworm and use it as a weapon.
The obverse of the coin bears the same motif as the reverse. The authentic octopus body structure uses fine embossing details combined with a patinated surface. The national emblem of the Republic of Barbados is placed in the lower part between the tentacles, surrounded by the inscription "BARBADOS", the year of issue "2024", the face value "5 DOLLARS" and the weight and purity of the metal.
The coin comes in a themed collector's box which bears the details of the certificate.
The mintage is limited to 1,499 pieces for the whole world!
