"Masterpieces of Art" Series - Mona Lisa - 3 Oz

This exclusive silver coin, issued by the Cook Islands in the Masterpieces of Art series, precision struck by the German mint B.H. Mayer in 2016, weighing 3 Oz (93.3 g) in the purest 99.9% silver purity in top proof quality, is dedicated to the most famous portrait of all time by Leonardo da Vinci - the Mona Lisa. The silver coin incorporates a rectangular inlay with Swarovski crystals.

The reverse of the coin features an inlay with a detailed coloured replica of da Vinci's Mona Lisa exhibited in the Louvre Museum in Paris. The inlay is framed with 26 Swarovski crystals. The following inscriptions on the silver coin are "MASTERPIECES OF ART", "LEONARDO DA VINCI" and the year of issue "2016". The Mona Lisa, also known as La Gioconda, is arguably the most famous portrait of all time. It was painted by Leonardo da Vinci during his stay in Florence between 1503 and 1506. Before his death, Leonardo sold the Mona Lisa to King Francis I of France, at whose invitation he had come to France, for the relatively large sum of 4,000 gold ducats. Today the painting is owned by the French government and is on display in the Louvre in Paris. Throughout history, however, the painting was first at the Chateau Fontainebleau, and later at Versailles. After the Great French Revolution, it was placed in the Louvre except when it was hung in the bedroom of Napoleon himself. The obverse shows a traditional portrait of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II by Ian-Rank Broadley with the initials "IRB", the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "COOK ISLANDS" and the face value "20 DOLLARS".

The coin comes in a gift box along with a numbered certificate of authenticity in a limited edition of only 1,506 pieces for the entire world!
