Eternal Sculptures II. - Moses

A unique silver coin issued by the State of Palau for 2022 weighing 3 Oz of the purest 99.9% silver in high relief and Black Proof. Utilizing the new technological capabilities of Smartminting, it showcases the Eternal Sculptures II artistic series through a double-sided motif. The first coin of the second series is dedicated to Michelangelo Buonarroti's marble statue of Moses.

The reverse of the coin features a reproduction of a Renaissance sculpture depicting the biblical figure of Moses with horns on his head, based on the description in Chapter 34 of the Book of Exodus in the Vulgate. Moses is seated in a solemn posture, his right hand protecting the stone tablets with the Ten Commandments and the other holding his long, shiny beard. New Smartminting technology has made it possible to create a high relief elaborated in remarkable fine detail on both sides of the coin. The motif is complemented by the "ETERNAL SCULPTURES II" series logo and the coin's name "MOSES". The rim of the coin is decorated with a typical Renaissance design with the year of issue in Roman numerals "MMXII".

The statue of Moses is the work of the Italian High Renaissance artist Michelangelo Buonarroti, placed in the church of San Pietro in Vincoli in Rome. The statue was commissioned for the tomb of Pope Julius II in 1505, but was not completed until 1545. Michelangelo used his perfect knowledge of anatomy to create this statue, which he was able to incorporate naturally into the marble. The statue of Moses looks very real and alive. Although Moses has visible horns on his head, they are not meant to represent anything diabolical. This is a passage from the first translation of the Bible into Latin in which Moses is so depicted. Today, the horns are considered a misinterpretation of the early medieval Latin translation of the Bible.

The obverse depicts a detail of the same statue: Moses' hand holding his long beard. The left side shows the coat of arms of the Republic of Palau with the inscription "REPUBLIC OF PALAU" and the denomination "20 DOLLARS". The circle is decorated with an original floral design.
