Detailed description
ANUBIS
The exclusive silver coin issued by the State of Djibouti for 2024 weighing 3 Oz in the purest 99.9% silver with Antique Standard finish and minted with special 3D technology, interprets one of the most revered gods of the ancient Egyptians - Anup.
The reverse side of the coin features a precise 3D embossing process that transfers a frontal view of the statue of the god Anup, differing from the traditional relief method of depicting the head exclusively in profile. The jackal-like guardian of tombs and the deceased gazes directly at the viewer. A headdress with an erect cobra is placed between the prominent ears, the covering of nemeses beneath them flowing down to over the man's shoulders. The combination of the headdress of Ureus and the nemes scarf belongs to the symbolism of royal power and is thus evidence of the privileged position of the god. The background of the coin consists of Egyptian hieroglyphics carved into a stone block.
Anup (Anubis) is one of the oldest ancient Egyptian gods. As protector of burial grounds and the dead, he was already worshipped during the reign of the first dynasty of Egyptian pharaohs 5,000 years ago. His importance is confirmed by depictions in temples and tombs. Wall reliefs or statues depict him in the form of a jackal or a man with a jackal's head. Anup was also the god of the hope of rebirth, the transition to the afterlife. He determined the embalming procedures that allowed the soul to return to its preserved body. Priests would put on a jackal's head during mummification to represent the presence of the god. In the Middle Kingdom period (2040-1786 BC), the role of ruler of the underworld passed to Osiris. Yet the cult of Anup persisted into the Hellenistic period.
The obverse of the coin draws on the Ani papyrus, which is part of the collections of the British Museum in London and is dated to around 1,250 BC. The motif takes part of a scene from the Book of the Dead and depicts the weighing of the heart of the deceased Ani in the Hall of Judgement. Anup kneels under the right arm of the scale, holding a plumb bob with his right hand. With his left hand he holds a rope with a bowl on which lies Maat, a feather embodying truth and order. The figure of the mortal Ani, standing under the left arm of the scale, is tiny compared to the size of the god. He waits in humility to see if his heart will remain in balance with Maat and thus be allowed to enter the afterlife.
The year of issue, the name of the god "ANUBIS" and the inscription "LEGENDS OF EGYPT" are incorporated into the top of the coin. The small circle at the bottom of the coin bears the national emblem of the Republic of Djibouti with the inscription "REPUBLIQUE DE DJIBOUTI", the face value "200 FRANCS" and the purity and weight information.
The coin comes in a stylish box with thematic printing. It includes a certificate of authenticity in a limited edition of only 1,999 pieces for the whole world!
