Detailed description

Silver Commemorative Coin
Ultra high relief filled with enamel

RAZITKO_POSTOVNE_ZDARMA_NENI

35th Anniversary of The Titanic's Wreck Discovery

This unique silver coin, partially filled with semi-permeable enamel, is issued by the Solomon Islands State for 2021, weighing 3 Oz (93.3 g) of the purest 99.9% silver in Ultra High Relief and finished in Antique Standard. The coin is being released to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the discovery of the Titanic wreck.

The design on the reverse of the coin depicts the last moments of the famous Titanic before her sinking. The stern of the ship rises out of the water and the propellers appear above the surface. The fateful iceberg is visible on the left and a lifeboat with survivors is visible at the bottom of the coin. The sea level is highlighted by the dark blue enamel that extends almost to the edge of the coin. Blue enamel in a lighter shade and bordered by a nautical rope fills the upper part of the centre of the coin, letting the map show the route of the voyage, the place and the date of the shipwreck '15 04 1912'. The motif transitions to the rim of the coin, which bears the inscription "REMEMBERING THE RMS TITANIC" and the coordinates of the wreck site "41°43′55″ N, 49°56′45″ W".
The RMS Titanic, the largest ocean liner of its time, was wrecked on 15 April 1912 on its maiden voyage after colliding with an iceberg. The White Star Line vessel's destruction, which claimed 1,517 lives among its passengers and crew, received widespread publicity and has not subsided even decades later. The wreck of the unsinkable ship has become the subject of many theories and legends. Verifying the hypotheses and unraveling the mystery of the wreck was behind the efforts to discover and recover it. But the ocean depth of around 4 kilometres and the technical inadequacies did not allow it at first.
It wasn't until the early 1980s that three realistic yet unsuccessful attempts were made. The breakthrough came only during a secret US Navy operation in 1985, in which oceanographer and geologist Robert D. Ballard took part. In addition to his extensive experience in mapping the seabed, he provided the Navy with an Argo research submarine equipped with new video technology. The real objective of the mission was to locate and explore the wrecks of two nuclear submarines. The opportunity to search for the Titanic was given to Ballard after the main mission was completed.
He searched the presumed wreck area in successive strips, hoping to capture the scattered remains of the wreckage. His assumption was correct and on 1 September 1985 the first wreckage was found. Thus, more than 73 years after the sinking, the cameras of the remotely operated submarine Argo saw the most famous wreck.

The face of the coin bears the motif of a steering wheel flanked by a nautical rope. The inner circle contains the words of the head of White Star Line's New York office upon receiving the news of Titanic's sinking, "THERE IS NO DANGER THAT TITANIC WILL SINK. THE BOAT IS UNSINKABLE AND NOTHING BUT INCONVENIENCE WILL BE SUFFERED BY THE PASSENGERS.", "- PHILLIP FRANKLIN - WHITE STAR LINE VICE-PRESIDENT" ("There is no danger that the Titanic will sink. The ship is unsinkable and the passengers will only endure discomfort."). A portrait of Queen Elizabeth II is placed in the center of the coin, surrounded by the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "SOLOMON ISLANDS", the face value "10 DOLLARS", the year "2021" and the fineness and weight information.

The coin comes in a deluxe wooden box along with a numbered certificate of authenticity in a limited edition of only 999 pieces for the entire world!
