Czech National Bank
The Czech National Bank (CNB) is the central bank of the Czech Republic and the body that supervises the financial market in the country. It has the status of a public body. It is entrusted with the powers of an administrative authority to the extent provided for by law. It manages independently, with professional care, the assets entrusted to it by the State. Pursuant to Article 98 of the Constitution of the Czech Republic and Act No 6/1993 Coll., on the CNB, as amended, the main objective of its activities is to ensure price stability. Achieving and maintaining price stability, i.e. creating a low-inflationary environment in the economy, is the central bank's permanent contribution to creating conditions for sustainable economic growth. The independence of the central bank is a prerequisite for the effectiveness of monetary instruments leading to price stability.
The CNB also supports the general economic policy of the government, provided that this secondary objective does not conflict with the primary objective. Accordingly, it determines monetary policy, issues banknotes and coins, regulates money circulation, payments and bank settlement, supervises the banking sector, the capital market, the insurance industry, pensions, credit unions, electronic money institutions and foreign exchange supervision.
