Detailed description

Golden Treasures of Ancient Egypt - silver coin with golden snowman

Issued by the State of Tuvalu in 2019 in 99.99% silver purity and weighing 2 ounces with an antique finish, this unique silver coin is a tribute to ancient Egypt and gold as an integral part of its religion and culture. A Plexiglas dome containing fine flakes of 24 karat gold in mineral oil is embedded in the center of the coin. When the coins are shaken, the tiny pieces of gold create an amazing snow show.

On the wide circle of the reverse side of the coin, icons associated with ancient Egypt are depicted around the perimeter of the dome and in a clockwise direction - Vedjat (the Eye of Horus), a pyramid, the god Anup in the form of a jackal, the goddess Bastet in the form of a cat, an amphora, a camel, the goddess Isis with outstretched wings, the god Horus in the form of a falcon, Anch (the Nile Cross), a sarcophagus, a scarab, and the death mask of a pharaoh. The background consists of columns of hieroglyphs. The motif incorporates information about the weight and purity of the coin, the mint mark "P" and the initials of the artist "AH".
Ancient Egyptian society regarded gold as the skin of their deities, especially the supreme sun god Re. Gold was worn by kings and priests alike and was also of great importance in burials. The most famous example is the death mask of Pharaoh Tutankhamun.
The civilization of ancient Egypt, lasting more than 3,000 years, is one of the most important and oldest dynastic groupings. It was concentrated along the lower reaches of the Nile River, which was the source of livelihood in an otherwise desert region. Egypt reached its greatest prosperity during the 18th-20th dynasties (1500-1100 BC). During the reigns of the famous pharaohs Thutmose I, II, III, Amenhotep, Akhenaten, Tutankhamun, Ramses I, Sethi I, Ramses II, Egypt gained vast territories through warfare and diplomacy. The construction of tombs in the Valley of the Kings began, and many monumental structures were built that survive to this day. The demise of ancient Egyptian civilization dates back to the advent of Christianity, when Egypt became a Roman province in 30 AD.

The circle on the obverse of the coin bears a small portrait of Queen Elizabeth II at the top, followed by Egyptian hieroglyphs expressing life - Anch in the inner circle and the inscriptions "QUEEN ELIZABETH II", "TUVALU" and the denomination and year of issue in the outer circle. The centre of the coin is formed by the bottom of a clear perspex dome.

The coin comes in a stylish pyramid-shaped presentation box with a certificate of authenticity in a limited edition of 2500 pieces for the whole world.
