Detailed description

Paris - Eiffel Tower - Ultra High Relief - 2 oz

This unique silver coin, issued by the State of Cook Islands for 2024, is minted in the finest 99.99% pure silver and weighs 2 Oz (62.2 g) with an Antique Standard finish. Using ultra-high relief on both sides, the coin features the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

The reverse of the coin features the iconic view of the Eiffel Tower. The design of the coin is supported by a flat bottom edge that allows the coin to be fixed in a perpendicular position. With the help of Smartminting technology, the ultra-high relief stands out, perfectly capturing every detail of the design with amazing precision. The main motif rises significantly above the level of the coin field and highlights the elegant silhouette of the tower. The patinated finish with light shading gives the structure an authentic plasticity. The background features a fine line map of the city with a dense network of streets and boulevards on both sides of the Seine. The rim of the coin bears the inscriptions in English 'PARIS', 'EIFFEL TOWER' and the year of issue '2024'.
The Eiffel Tower is both a symbol of Paris and an example of the engineering genius of the late 19th century. Gustave Eiffel's 324-metre-high steel structure was inaugurated on the occasion of the 1889 World's Fair. The tower was built as a grand gateway to the exhibition grounds and offered visitors a panoramic view of Paris from three observation floors, as well as seating and refreshments in the café. The city planned to dismantle the temporary landmark after two years. It was rescued by its popularity as a major tourist attraction and also by its other uses. It carried radio and later television transmitters. It supplied data to a research laboratory for experiments in meteorology and aerodynamics. During World War I, the tower helped France to intercept enemy communications. Unfortunately, it was also misused by the occupying German army during the Second World Conflict to monitor the activities of the French Resistance.
The Eiffel Tower held the title of the world's tallest building until 1930, when it was dethroned from its imaginary pinnacle by the Chrysler Building in New York. But nothing has changed the fact that the Eiffel Tower is one of the few buildings that has become a truly global icon. It is a symbol of Paris, of France, of the romance of travel, of engineering and of progress in human history.

The face of the coin, using Smartminting technology in ultra-high relief, depicts the same precision craftsmanship on the reverse of the tower. The background shows a detail that demonstrates the combination of industrial functionality with the aesthetic elements of the emerging Art Nouveau period. Included is a coin portrait of Charles III with the inscriptions "COOK ISLANDS", "CHARLES III" and the denomination "10 DOLLARS".

The coin comes in a presentation frame with a certificate of authenticity, in a limited edition of only 1,889 pieces for the entire world!

Smartminting® is a revolutionary technology in the field of modern numismatics. The greatest advantage is the dramatic and unsurpassed heights of relief combined with intricate detail. High and ultra-high relief is possible on both sides of the coin, and the top of the relief can be placed as close to the edge as possible. However, the conventional embossing process not only requires more material (higher weight), but more importantly, the highest point must be concentrated in the center of the coin, which does not reach the same height as with Smartminting® technology. Another bonus of Smartminting® technology is the possibility of minting even in the highest Proof quality for coloured coins and, of course, the Antique Standard finish remains.
