Black Swan Maali
An exclusive silver coloured coin minted by the Australian Perth Mint in 2022 in the finest 99.99% purest silver with a weight of 2 Oz and Antique Standard finish, this coin features the Maali - the Black Swan in the original style of Aboriginal art.
The reverse of the coin depicts a swan with outstretched wings in the traditional spotted style of the Aboriginal people of Australia. Coloured dots of different sizes form arcs and circles and compose a harmonious background. The design includes the mint mark 'P' and the initials of the artist 'KB'.
The black swan bears the name Maali in the language of Australia's indigenous Noogar people. Legend tells of the reason for the change in plumage colour from the original white to black. In the world and time of Dreamtime, when what is now southwest Western Australia was flat land and the days were dark and frosty, Maali had white feathers and grey bills. They were aware of their beauty and loved to show it off. The Waalitj (wedge-tailed eagle) learned of the Maali's pride and punished them. He tore out their feathers and destined them to die in the desert unprotected. But the Wardong (crows) took pity on them and covered them with their own feathers. With their black feathers, Waalitj no longer recognized them and so they escaped punishment. After the attack, their blood-stained beaks turned permanently red. The original plumage now resembles only a pair of white feathers on the wings, which they reveal only in flight. The Maali is now part of the emblem and flag of Western Australia.
The obverse traditionally depicts a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark with the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "AUSTRALIA", weight and purity information "2 OZ", "9999 AG", year of issue "2022" and face value "2 DOLLARS".
The coin is supplied in a presentation box along with a numbered certificate of authenticity in a limited mintage of only 2,000 pieces for the entire world!
