One Kilo Silver Puzzle Coin Pope John Paul II - Canonization
This exclusive silver coin, issued by the Cook Islands in 2014 and weighing 1 Kg , is dedicated to the canonization of Pope John Paul II. The coin is imaginatively composed of thirteen parts, twelve of which surround a partially gilded inner ring and can be put together in the form of a Puzzle.
The inner circle depicts a portrait of Pope John Paul II with a halo on its reverse, which is gilded. On the left side is a dove, on the right a cross and above the halo is the inscription 'IOANNES PAVLVS 1978 - 2005'. Around the inner circle are key moments from the Pope's life - the twelve pieces of the puzzle depict the Pope, various religious objects and symbols on their reverse. The obverse shows a traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian-Rank Broadley and the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II", "COOK ISLANDS", the denomination and year of issue.
The coin comes in a luxurious white wooden box along with an illustrated booklet and numbered certificate of authenticity in a limited edition of only 500 pieces for the whole world!
John Paul II.
Blessed John Paul II (Latin: Ioannes Paulus, Italian: Giovanni Paolo, proper name Karol Józef Wojtyła, 18 May 1920 Wadowice - 2 April 2005 Vatican City) was a Polish Catholic cleric, auxiliary bishop (1958-1963) and archbishop (1963 to 1978) of Kraków, cardinal from 1967 and pope from 16 October 1978 until his death.
As pope, he played a major role in world politics, and is credited with bringing about the collapse of the communist regimes in Central and Eastern Europe, as well as improving the Catholic Church's relations with Judaism and the Eastern and Anglican churches. During his pontificate he visited 129 countries, more than any of his predecessors. As Pope, he gave much encouragement to Marian veneration and emphasized the vocation to holiness. He canonized and beatified more people than all his predecessors combined.
He also built on the teachings of his predecessors on sexual morality and the protection of human life. Many times, especially in his catecheses and in the encyclical Evangelium vitae, he clearly reaffirmed the traditional Church position of the moral impermissibility of abortion, contraception and euthanasia. Among the many persons canonized and beatified by him were also several Czech men and women: St. Agnes of Bohemia, St. Zdislava of Lemberg and St. John Sarkander among the canonized, Bl. Marie Antonina Kratochvílová, Bl. Marie Restituta Kafková, Bl. Methodius Dominik Trčka and Bl. Emperor and King Charles I among the beatified.
