The exclusive silver lunar coin of the Republic of Rwanda, issued for the year 2021 and struck in the purest 99.9% silver fineness, weighing 1 Oz (31.1 g) in proof, is dedicated to the Chinese lunar cycle and the zodiac, which in 2021 represents the Year of the Buffalo
The reverse of the coin bears a buffalo motif depicted in a stylized mosaic. The Chinese character for the "Year of the Buffalo" is incorporated at the top. This is followed by the inscriptions 'LUNAR OUNCE' (left) and the weight, fineness and year of issue (right). At the bottom, the inscription "YEAR OF THE OX" is placed on the background of the mosaic.
People born in the year of the buffalo/steer (1913, 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009 and 2021) are characterized as calm and patient personalities who occasionally explode in violent tantrums.
The obverse of the coin depicts the heraldic symbol of Rwanda surrounded by the inscriptions "BANKI NKURU Y'U RWANDA" and the denomination "AMAFARANGA 50 MIRONGO ITANU".
