When you say orchid, most of us think of exotic scenes full of lavish flowers. However, the more knowledgeable know that several of these noble beauties are also found in our nature. One of them is even found only in the Czech Republic and in one single location!. It is called the Czech ringwort (Dactylorhiza bohemica) and it should be treated with the utmost respect, as it belongs to the sad list of critically endangered species of our flora. This rare flower is rightly the subject of the next issue of the Czech Mint's coloured 1 NZD Smart coin from the sought-after Endangered Nature series.
The Bohemian ringwort belongs to the family of the staminate family and was probably created by crossbreeding other ringwort species, of which there are about 75. It appears on calcareous and damp bogs in the hilly area - exclusively in the Českolipsko region near Doksy. The plant is about 40-45 cm tall and the lovely purple flowers are only visible for a short time each year, from June to July. It is protected by the international CITES agreement.
The 1 NZD Silver Smart Coin is a very attractive collector's artefact, which is due to both the exceptional theme and the extraordinary workmanship. It is signed by the talented medallist MgA. Martin Dašek, who has demonstrated his artistic skills in the series many times. The reverse is dedicated to the colourful motif of the ringlet along with its Czech and Latin name around the perimeter. The obverse belongs to a tasteful composition of the issuer's attributes interwoven with four flowers. The issue, which will delight collectors and nature lovers alike, is limited to 1000 pieces.
