The silver coin series called Endangered Nature features plants and animals on the list of endangered species that can be encountered in the Czech Republic or on the soil of one of the neighbouring countries. The brown bear, to which the third issue of 2016 is dedicated, disappeared in our country centuries ago, but has begun to return to us from the Slovak Carpathians.

Although the bear is Europe's largest carnivore, weighing around 200 kilograms, the vast majority of its food consists of plants. As a rule, it does not hunt meat prey, but it likes carcasses, insects and, of course, honey. It is not strictly territorial and spends the winter hibernating, which lasts up to a quarter of a year. Although bears are mostly vegetarians, notorious loners and hibernators, they strike fear in humans. However, they will only harm humans in rare cases when the basic rules of contact with these majestic animals are not followed. Because humans are not as kind to bears, the entire species is now listed as critically endangered.

The author of the design of the reverse side of the coin is an experienced medallist MgA. Martin Dašek. Traditionally, it contains two different views of the animal - the close-up of the massive head is rendered in relief, while the overall view of the beast walking through the grass is rendered in the form of elegant colouring using pad printing technology. The description gives the name of the species in Czech and Latin: BLACK BEAR - URSUS ARCTOS. Smart coins are minted by the Czech Mint under license from the Pacific island of NIUE ISLAND, and the obverse side features a sculptural depiction of a wild natural scenery from the workshop of ac. Majka Wichnerová's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the nominal value of 1 DOLLAR (NZD) and the year of issue 2016.

The coin is housed in a narrative package in the form of an illustrated booklet, which contains text introducing the bear's life. The Czech Mint also offers a collector's box where you can store the issues from the Endangered Nature series in quarters.
