Detailed description
The Great Greek Mythology series
The Polish Mint Mint XXI comes up with the most extensive series of The Great Greek Mythology yet. The issue of this unique series is planned for 4 years and will offer a total of 36 silver selectively gilded coins in 3 different sizes. The individual coins will introduce us to the most famous figures of Greek mythology, worked down to the smallest detail thanks to the high relief design.
The ancient Greeks believed that gods had the same qualities and emotions as mortals. This is probably why Greek legends are so popular and contain a huge number of stories. In them, the gods act like humans, they can be noble or vengeful, deceitful or honest. They can love and hate, envy and wish, feel anger and joy.
Each silver coin tells a fascinating story about the gods, heroes and mythical creatures of ancient Olympus.
Centaur (1 oz)
The reverse side of the coin features the mythological creature, the Centaur. Half horse, half man, a symbol of bravery and masculine strength. The untamed wild creature wields a drawn bow and a gilded arrow with which he does not hesitate to strike anyone who tries to mount him. The background depicts typical Greek patterns, along with a centuries-old tree, symbolizing the wild green nature of the Pelion peninsula. The inscription ''CENTAUR'' appears on the underside.
Themis (2 oz)
The reverse of the coin depicts the strong and confident Titaness Themis, goddess of lawful order among men and in nature. She is dressed in the robes of responsibility, holding in her left hand a gilded balance to weigh all evidence and claims, and in her right hand she wields a sword to execute judgment. To be impartial, her eyes are blindfolded. Beneath it are depicted the people awaiting her verdict. The background is decorated with floral ornaments with the inscription ''THEMIS'' and the circle with traditional Greek designs.
Hefaistos (3 oz)
The reverse of this coin depicts the mythical god of blacksmithing and fire, Hephaestus. The god is dressed in a blacksmith's apron with a belt. In his hand he holds his hammer and behind his belt are the tongs he uses for his craft. His famous creations are visible in the background. The armour of the hero Achilles, chained to the outer chain ring, and the palaces on Olympus. The volcano Etna, spewing golden lava, is where he has his workshop. The background is decorated with a typical Greek design, over which the coin's name ''HEPHAESTUS'' is written.
The obverse of the coin depicts the Temple of Zeus in ancient Olympia, surrounded by a laurel wreath. The year of issue is written at the top of the inner circle and the purity of the coin at the bottom. The outer ring is decorated with a typical Greek design with the inscription ''REPUBLIQUE DU CAMEROUN'', the face value, year of issue and weight. The centre is crossed by two ancient columns.
The coins are supplied in a luxury box with a certificate of authenticity, in limited editions of 500 (Centaur, Themis) and 333 (Hephaestos)
