Bridges of the Czech Republic
Set of 10 gold coins issued by the Czech National Bank in 2011 - 2015. The motifs on the coins accurately depict the bridges of the Czech Republic. The coins are supplied without a box and with an individual postcard-size certificate of authenticity for each coin.
Gothic Bridge in Písek
The stone bridge in Písek (unofficially also called the Deer Bridge) is the oldest surviving bridge in the Czech Republic (and for the title of the oldest bridge in Central Europe, it competes with the stone bridge in Reisgau, Germany, which was completely demolished in a flood and rebuilt, so for the inhabitants of Písek, the oldest bridge is theirs), bridging the Otava River about 110 km south of the capital Prague. It is built in Gothic style. On the bridge there are replicas of Baroque statues and crosses.
Renaissance bridge in Stříbro
The three-arched bridge is relatively low and allowed the water to flow when the level of the Mže River rose. The large stone bridge has two arches and is still decorated with sculptures. Drainage troughs run through the parapet. The bridge is less than 6 metres wide and the total length of both bridges is 60 metres. The arches are semi-circular made of hewn blocks and bricks. The parapet of the bridge is 5 metres above the water level. The gate stands on a 5.15 metre wide guide pillar. The tower floor of the gate has a hexagonal tent roof covered with yarns. The bridge was built by Benedikt Volch in 1555-1560.
Baroque bridge in Náměšt' nad Oslavou
The Baroque bridge was built in 1737 by Count Václav Adrian of Enckevoort. In 1744 the sculptural decoration of the bridge was completed. It consists of 20 statues of angels and saints, mostly by J. Winterhalter and A. Jelínek. There are the archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael, St. John of Nepomuk, St. Francis, St. Anne, St. Florian, St. Leopold, St. Wenceslas, St. Therese, St. Cajetan, St. Philip of Neri and others. The bridge with seven arches is 62 m long and 8 m wide and until 1986 it was the only bridge in the town connecting the banks of the Oslava River.
Negrelli Viaduct in Prague
The Negrelli Viaduct is the second oldest still standing bridge over the Vltava River in Prague after the Charles Bridge. Its construction was necessitated by the continuation of the Northern State Railway from Prague to Dresden. The viaduct spans the Karlin valley, then still an unregulated floodplain, and the two Vltava arms that divide the lower part of the Štvanice island.
The wooden bridge in Lenora
The wooden bridge is located on the left, just outside the village itself, on the road towards Volary. Due to its preserved condition and the function that the "rechle" fulfilled in the past, it is considered to be a valuable and unique technical monument, bringing visitors closer to the history of timber navigation on the Vltava River and the life of the local population.
The railway bridge in Žampach
On the line of the "Posázava Pacific", which runs parallel to the Sázava, between the stations Borek-Žampach and Luki pod Medníkem, about 3 km south of Jílové and 12 km east of the confluence of the Sázava and Vltava, is one of our highest railway stone viaducts, built between 1898 and 1899 in just two years. Its seven arches have a span of 12.5 metres. The bridge has an arch-shaped plan. The highest arch is 41 (according to other data 46) metres above the gorge called Kocour and over the Studený stream. Freight traffic by rail gradually displaced raft traffic on the Sázava and attracted industry to the region.
Jizera Viaduct on the line Tanvald - Harrachov
Today, 12 kilometres of the line from Tanvald to Harrachov, known among people as the "Kořenov Zubačka" or "Polubenka", from the original 59-kilometre Austrian-Prussian link between Tanvald and Hirschberg (today's Polish town of Jelenia Góra), is in operation. The line from Tanvald to Harrachov boasts many interesting man-made structures, including five tunnels, the longest of which is 940 metres long, the still preserved 4.43 km long two-lane Abt's cog railway in the track axis on the seven-kilometre section Tanvald - Kořenov, overcoming the height difference of 235 metres with a maximum gradient of up to 58 per mille, which is the highest in the Czech Republic.
Bridge in Karviná - Drakov
The Karviná - Darkov Spa boasts a nice technical monument. The reinforced concrete arch road bridge from 1925 over the Olše River, located opposite the main spa building, underwent extensive reconstruction in 2003-2004 and gained not only a representative facade but also a new function. The renovation of the dilapidated 56 m long bridge was also combined with the adaptation of the surrounding roads so that the unusual monument serves only pedestrians and cyclists, not motor vehicles.
Žďák Bridge
The Žďákovský Bridge is a steel road bridge over the Vltava River in the Písek district of South Bohemia. It is part of the I/19 road connecting Tábor with Plzeň and is located about 15 km west of Milevsko and 12 km east of Mirovice. It lies between the villages of Staré Sedlo (Orlík nad Vltavou) on the left bank and Kostelec nad Vltavou on the right bank of the river.
Marian Bridge in Ústí nad Labem
The Mariánský Bridge is the youngest of the three bridges over the Elbe River in Ústí nad Labem. It connects the districts of Ústí nad Labem-City and Ústí nad Labem-Střekov. It is intended for car traffic, cyclists and pedestrians. It was opened in 1998. Next to the Dr. E. Beneš Bridge and the railway bridge, it is the third link between the two banks in Ústí nad Labem. It forms a counterbalance to the Mariánská rock in the place called Ústí Gate. Next to the traditional symbol of the town, the Střekov Castle, it has become a modern landmark of Ústí nad Labem. The author of the design is architect Roman Koucký.
